Great to be back! This year adopted the Sprint format. (Qual speed not counted for record as its an open track and not a race).
DJ lead most of the Sprint race but with 16 to go Paul made the pass
and held on to the checkers, and set the new track speed record of 14.580, bettering his old record by 0.175. Joe lost a wheel early on forcing him to retire his car.
In the Grand Prix, teammates DJ and Dusty ran together most of the race
and occasionally swapped the lead while Paul chased from 3rd. It was
looking like a cruise to a 1-2 finish when on lap 108 the teammates
collided causing BOTH cars to spill their batteries! Quick reassembly
kept them in the lead, but Paul capitalized on the opportunity and
closed the gap, passing Dusty with 8 laps to go. DJ's lead was too much
to overcome and he brought home the checkers to win the main event.
The real distance run between Sprint and Grand Prix was just over 9 miles.
Congratulations and thanks to all the drivers, that was a great time
and I look forward to the next full-length Formula Mini special event!
