2012 Season, Week 9

That's a wrap for Mini-AZ's 2012 season. Nine race weekends over the last year with lots of battles for position and quite a few different race winners. Here are some stats from the 69 races of 2012:

Distance: 4904 laps by the leaders, or 122.67 miles (3434.76mi at 1:28 scale)
Most Wins: Brad with a runaway 50. Next closest was Dusty with 14
Fastest Lap: Brad with a 7.664sec at the JGTC-2 Circuit
Records Broken: One track record fell, eight class records were beaten
Biggest Mover: Dusty finished 3 spots over the season opener in AZGT and
DJEPC. Joe gained 3 spots in FM
DNF's: 20 / DNS's: 10. Gettin' aggressive there, guys

That race distance is only scored laps, and is the equivalent of running our Mini-Z's from Phoenix to just north of Sedona. If practice, heats, special events and the ISRL are included, it would probably be closer to the Grand Canyon. That's a lot of track time and a lot of fun.

2012 Season, Week 8

We return again to a circuit that has been in the rotation for several years now, the Keyhole. A medium track with great flow and a very challenging kink. Grip levels were odd today seeing a lot of spins into the wall in the twists coming off the straight. I found it best to stay in the throttle just a little to keep the car stable and carry speed around. Lots of fun to drive once in the groove and sling shotting the car around the track.

No one was able to topple Joe's previous track record of 7.496. In the AZGT Brad tied Paul's class record of 7.753. Brad also set the initial DJEPC fast lap for this circuit of 7.733sec. DJ came up just 0.249sec short of Paul's record in FM and Brad was 0.197sec outside Joe's record in OCD.

With one race remaining in the season, most of the leader boards are set, but some positions are still in play. Some are long shots, but some are neck-and-neck, so keep the throttle down and go for the wins!

2012 Season, Week 7

A rather thin turnout this month, but fun nonetheless. The big goal of the day turned into trying to topple Paul's track record of 07.856 in the OCD. Brad made the closest run but came up just 0.062sec short with a 0.7918sec fast lap of the day in OCD.

Some records did fall today though. New class records went to:
AZGT Wes 08.122 (old record Hood 08.610)
DJEPC Brad 08.249
FM Joe 08.590 (old record DJ 08.647)

There were a number of position shifts. Joe is now within 2pts of taking 3rd from Hood in the AZGT, and 16pts out of 2nd. Dusty is only 1pt behind Joe's 3rd place. Brad got his F1 working again and immediately became the next first time winner this season in FM, while Dusty's faltering car has further eroded his lead. And in OCD Dusty is just 20pts behind Joe for 2nd place. With two races remaining that's an improbable leap, but not impossible.

With so many position so close, you've got to be inch perfect and flat out. Go for broke!

2012 Season, Week 6

As always Snetterton was a blast to drive. Brad missed his previous track record of 12.735sec by only 0.254sec, but carried the fastest time of the day in OCD. New class records went to:
AZGT Brad 13.263 (old record Brad 13.697)
DJEPC Brad 13.308
FM Dusty 13.533 (old record Wes 13.976)

The Handicap system in DJEPC has reached an evening out point such that it saw the running order shift around elevating Joe to P1 in both races.

A dramatic battle in FM ended with DJ snatching the win from Dusty in the final laps and moving past Joe in the standings leaving them tied for 2nd at 99pnts.

And in OCD the entire field ran very competitively, even seeing Dusty snag his second victory of the season from the usually dominant Brad.

It was a fun day of racing on a great circuit. Only three races left in the season, three more chances to secure positions on the leader board. Good luck drivers.

2012 Season, Week 5

This week brings us to a Mini-AZ classic- the Moosehead Circuit with its challenging Log Ride chicanes and the high G Arctic Circle.

A couple records tumbled. In AZGT Hood's 9.441 lap fell to Brad's 9.339 time, and in FM Paul's 9.687 was displaced by Joe's 9.605. DJ set the track's initial DJEPC record with a 9.896. Brad set the fast lap of the day in OCD with 9.327, but Joe retains the overall track record with his previous OCD time of 9.241.

Dusty had strong runs today in the AZGT, FM and OCD chalking up four victories. However the OCD scores were tempered by the transponder not being fully plugged in during the first race resulting in a zero score.

There were no shakeups in the DJEPC, but the top five drivers now have time handicaps which means nearly everyone has had a run at the podium in that series.

2012 Season, Week 4

Today we return to Joe's Wiggle. A fun, swooping track with a very tricky kink, which despite being one tile wide saw numerous fender-to-fender two-wide battles round that corner without (significant) contact! We have some skilled drivers here.

Brad set the fast time of the day in OCD with a 11.186 lap, however Hood still sits in the #1 spot with his previous record of 11.006 in the OCD. Brad did unseat Joe's best of 11.247 in the AZGT with a new class record of 11.210.

Many cars finished in packs on or about the same lap for some tightly contested races, but this was balanced by an unusually high number of DNF's and DNS's. Pretty tough day of racing.

While Brad dominated the fast laps of the day, DJ's cars have really come to life. Storming to the front he won the FM race ending Dusty's unbroken streak of wins, landing 1 point away from bumping defending champion Hood off the podium. Dusty's car is having trouble, so that championship can still change hands!

2012 Season, Week 3

Welcome to the first season race at historic Fuji Speedway. To-date we had only run an FMGP special event here with a fast lap of 13.181sec set by Brad. Today he slashed that to a 12.137 lap in the OCD for a new track record.

Week 3 has ended with numerous tight battles in the points. Dusty was off to a strong start in the AZGT, but transponder problems followed by running out of fuel on the final lap allowed Joe to pass him in the standings by one point.

But Karma can be an unkind lady, and despite a very close battle on-track, DJ was able to make a big two spot jump to pass Joe by one point in the DJEPC. That jump was facilitated by the first time effect of the Time Handicap rule, dropping Brad back two spots to end behind DJ by only 2.459sec after adjustment.

Next month Joe has the advantage as the only driver without a time handicap.

Dusty continues a dominant charge at the lead of FM, while the points have comfortably spread out in OCD.
